In movies and books we can find many characters who try and some times succeed in deceiving others. A book we can find a lot of deceiving in is “The Taming of the Shrew” through Petruchio, Lucentio, Bianca, and Hortensio. We also find deceit in the movie “The Bounty Hunter” through Milo and Nicole. In the movie, Milo’s ex-wife, Nicole, skips bail to follow journalism case since she is a journalist and gets a $5000 bounty put on her head. Milo is a bounty hunter so he takes the bounty offer and heads off to find and bring Nicole to jail. There is deceit and love spread all over the movie as Nicole and Milo lie about their love for each other and other things. In the book “The Taming of the Shrew”, Bianca’s suitors deceive Bianca’s father by getting Katherine married to Petruchio who is in it for the money so that they could marry Bianca and Petruchio continues to deceive Katherine after they get married. Although deceiving a person may be wrong, sometimes it is needed in order to either get what you want or to protect yourself.

Biondello: Then thus: Baptista is safe, talking with the deceiving father of a deceitful son.
Lucentio: And what of him?
Biondello: His daughter is to be brought by you to the supper.
Lucentio: And then?
Biondello: The old priest at Saint Luke’s Church is at your command at all hours.
Lucentio: And what of all this?
Biondello: I cannot tell, [except] they are busied about a counterfeit assurance. Take you assurance of her cum privilegio ad imprimendum solum. To th’ church take the priest, clerk, and some sufficient honest witnesses.

In the scene here in "The Taming of the Shrew", Biondello is telling Lucentio that the chance to elope with Bianca like they both want is tonight and they have to do it tonight in order to keep up the deception until they tell Baptista, Bianca's father about the elopement. Here you see how they are eloping due to necessity since Lucentio that Bianca loves is a different person from the Lucentio her father knows since Lucentio and Tranio, Lucentio's servant switched roles in order for the real Lucentio to woo Bianca and elope with her.
Milo from "The Bounty Hunter" has to do close to the same thing as in the book except its not elopement exactly.
What happening in this scene is Milo claims to be driving Nicole to turn in her work and that after they would get married again but really he is bringing her to the police precinct so he can get his $5000 that on her head. After he turns her in though he gets arrested on purpose so that he can still spend what would be their anniversary if they were still married together in jail to show he still loves her. So Milo shows he will deceive if he can get his money but then gets arrested so he still has Nicole to love and be with. So compared to what Lucentio did they both got married but had to use deception in order to achieve it.

Merchant: My life, sir? How, I pray? For that goes hard.

Your ships are stayed at Venice, and the Duke,
For private quarrel 'twixt your duke and him,
Hath published and proclaimed it openly.
'Tis marvel, but that you are but newly come,
You might have heard it else proclaimed about.
Merchant: Alas, sir, it is worse for me than so,
For I have bills for money by exchange
From Florence, and must here deliver them.
Tranio [as Lucentio]: Well, sir, to do you courtesy,
This will I do, and this I will advise you.
First tell me, have you ever been at Pisa?"
In this quote, Tranio who is pretending to be Lucentio is looking for someone to pretend to be his father since his father is in Pisa and he someone to be his dad so that person can sign off for the dowry and accept the marriage between Lucentio and Bianca while they are going to elope. Tranio and Biondello find a Merchant who resembles his father and is not from Padua, so they confront him and deceive him by telling him that Mandua and Padua are at war and any citizens of Mandua found in Padua will be executed but that if the Merchant poses as Lucentio's father and accepts the dowry and marriage then he will live.
In the movie, Milo has to deceive someone who isn't part of his and Nicole's love but has to deceive in order to go on.
In this scene, Milo is talking to his boss about how Nicole has a picture of them even though they aren't married anymore and that she admitted she screwed up their marriage before. His boss' assistant says that she loves him still and his boss says not to "think with his dick" which Milo says he isn't and that he is still turning her in which at the moment he was thinking not to turn her in to jail. Compared to how Lucentio lied to the Merchant in order to get what he wants and protect the real Lucentio and Bianca's love, Milo is doing the same here so that his boss doesn't send someone else after Nicole and so that Nicole and him can be happy and love each other.
These portrayals show that society believes that deception is needed at some point in a relationship to maintain the relationship and not have it go downhill and to protect your loved ones. Milo in the end gets the girl and the $5000 by turning her in but then punching a cop which throws him in jail also which Milo does so they can be together again even if its in jail. Lucentio in the end elopes with Bianca and tells Baptista and his real father who shows up and after some arguing Baptista and Vincentio agree to it and are okay with Bianca and Lucentio being together. So we get the feeling of accomplishment through deception even though it probably would have been easier to tell the truth. You can see that Nicole and Milo are back together at the end since before the credits roll we see them in jail cells kissing each other and saying "Happy Anniversary".
